The File Utilities form is displayed, when the File Utilities option is selected from the TOPIC DEVELOPMENTS STEPS menu.
In the creation of a RAW DATA FILE you must verify that the Record length is long enough and you must input the capacity for data records that the new RAW DATA FILE will have.
Note: To optimise disk space, you must keep the number for FILE SIZE as realistic as possible. If you have given the raw data file too little capacity then you can EXTEND the file at a later date. It is difficult to shrink files.
Data Dictionary library: This is a reference from where the data dictionaries for Advanced Analysis reside, and should default correctly.
Dictionary file name: The name of the dictionary for which a raw file is being created. There is a There is a search option here, available by clicking the ellipse [...] button.
Minimum record size: Defaulted according to the dictionary size.
Data library: Where the new raw data files will be kept on the system. This should default correctly.
Data file: The name for the new data file. Always use ##.AA.rawXX where ## is the company number, normally 00, and XX are the same capital letters as the letters used in the Topic code.
Record length bytes: Defaulted but ensure that enough bytes are allocated.
File size records: The size of the file in terms of records. Ensure that this figure is larger than the amount of records that will be produced by the report generator update report for this raw data file. This figure can be extended in the File utilities at a later date.
