However, a number of common functions and techniques are used to navigate the various forms and menus within the Kestrel application. These techniques have been compiled together within this form to provide a quick easy-to-use reference guide.
Numerous command buttons are used within Kestrel menus and forms. Examples of frequently used command buttons are as follows:
This button is used to confirm a particular option selection.
Cancels any edited amendments and returns to the previous form.
Provides online access to a context sensitive help form.
To navigate the Command Buttons the following methods can be used:
A number of other buttons are used frequently throughout the system.
Located on the Titlebar this minimises the form to a button and transfers it to the Taskbar
Located on the Titlebar this returns the form to its full size
Located on the Titlebar this exits the current form and returns to the previous form or menu
Selection of the down-arrow button displays a drop-down list box displaying available options. A single click of the mouse highlights and selects the appropriate item.
The Scroll Bar can be operated in a number of ways:
Within a List Box, selection of the required item(s) can be carried out in a number of ways using standard windows functionality.
- To select adjacent items in a list:
Single-left-click on the first required item and, while holding down the mouse button, stripe-down to the last required item.
Single-left-click on the first required item, hold down the Shift Key, and single-click on the last required item in the list.
- To select non-adjacent items in a list:
Single-click on the first required item, hold down the Ctrl Key, then click on the next required item (repeat this process until all the required items are selected).
- If only one item is required, single-click on the required item.
A single-click of the mouse places a tick within the check box and selects the option. A further single-click of the mouse deselects the option. The spacebar also places a tick within the check box.
Selection of the ellipsis box always displays a further selection form.
Enables movement from field to field within a form (in a pre-determined order) without the use of a mouse.
Option buttons are mutually exclusive and prompt the selection of one option at the expense of other choice(s).
Selects and highlights the required choice.
Selects and confirms the required option choice.
Often displays a further selection choice.
In certain circumstances a left-click on column headers enables a column to be sorted in ascending/descending order
