A spooler can be defined as Software or hardware to which data is spooled and which processes that data in the background (such as printing the data). To spool is to send files to a device or program (a 'spooler' or daemon) that puts them in a queue for later processing of some kind.
Note: The term 'SPOOL' has been attributed as an acronym for Simultaneous Peripheral Operation On-Line.
The Spool Configuration form is displayed when you click System Utilities > MANAGEMENT MENU > spool configuration.
Printer stream: The printer stream number.
Spool description: Up to 40 character description of the spooler.
Print: Set this check box to a tick to set this printer to automatically print.
Auto archive: Set this check box to a tick to automatically archive.
UNIX device address: The UNIX device address of the spooler.
Mini parameters: Only used for UNIX direct serial printing.
Report banner: This is a check box. Tick the box to get the text banner that you want to appear on the report.
User or email group available to: Allows spoolers to be accessed by individual users or mail groups (Unix only). E.g. Programs such as End Of Day D.O.C in Timed Ops to be mailed to groups or users who only have access to a particular spooler.
