When, in the Autoline Showroom new vehicle quotation process, a factory-new vehicle is specified (a 'price book' vehicle as distinct from one held in the dealer's stock), Autoline connects (with an internet browser) to CESAR (an internet site). CESAR enables you to specify a vehicle according to customer requirements. You can connect to CESAR from various points in the Showroom process.
Note: If your Autoline system is temporarily unable to connect with CESAR, you can work in off-line mode up to the point of order confirmation (quote status C). However, CESAR must validate the wholesale offer before it can be accepted into Vehicle Stock Books.
The resulting vehicle specification is saved to, and re-accessed from, the CESAR database.
Note: CESAR does not apply to every franchise and it can only 'look at' one franchise at a time. Therefore, where you have selected more than one CESAR-enabled franchise, it cannot connect until the ambiguity is resolved. You can achieve this by selecting a single franchise or a specific vehicle model.
Depending on the parameters, you may need to select customer details before you can connect to CESAR.
Tip:You can select or create a customer record by clicking the Customer button on the toolbar before starting any process, but you can also do so throughout the sales process.
When using the Next
and Previous
buttons, the forms' display order is controlled by a sequence number. That sequence order is maintained, at Kerridge access priority 9, in Franchise data / System parameters / Options types - Default sequence no.
Examples:
Clicking Next
on the Trims form displays the Dealer options form and clicking Next
on that form displays the Extended Warranties form.
Clicking the Previous button
on the Specification Confirmation form when the last option type in the sequence is factory-fitted triggers an attempt to connect to CESAR.
Clicking the Previous button
on the Specification Confirmation form when, in contrast to the above, the last option type is dealer-fitted displays the Dealer options form.
Note: Any options configured in CESAR should be defined as factory options in the Franchise data / System parameters (for 8.30.9304 only). We have assumed that Colour, Trims, Factory options and Packs are configured in CESAR and are therefore treated as factory-fitted.
What do you want to do?
Select a CESAR-enabled franchise
Launch the CESAR vehicle configurator from the Showroom Enquiries - Select a Franchise form, - Select a Model form, or the - Vehicles Matching Criteria Entered... form
Finish the post-CESAR part of the new vehicle quotation process
To select a CESAR-enabled franchise:
On the Showroom Main menu select the Quotations option.
The Showroom Customer Enquiries form is displayed.
Tip: See the New Vehicles process for principal menus and toolbar icons.
Click the New vehicle button.
Note: If you previously created or recalled an enquiry in the same session, the customer details remain in memory and a Customer details in memory dialog box prompts you with the message Clear stored values? Click the Yes, start new button to select another customer record or the No, same customer button to stay with the previous customer record.
The Showroom Enquiries - Select A Franchise form is displayed, enabling the process of creating a quotation on a new vehicle.
Note: Depending on your system's configuration, Autoline may have automatically selected a franchise, in which case proceed to step 4.
Click a button for a CESAR-enabled franchise.
The button for the selected franchise is ticked.
Tip: At this point the functionality of Autoline Showroom and CESAR overlap, and you have a choice.
You can launch CESAR directly or instead stay in Showroom, proceeding to the Next
form.
Tip: You can launch CESAR from a button on the toolbar or from an option on the Tools menu.
What do you want to do?
Launch CESAR from the Showroom Enquiries - Select a Franchise form
Launch CESAR from the Showroom Enquiries - Select a Model form
Launch CESAR from the Showroom Enquiries - Vehicles Matching Criteria Entered... form (for selecting a variant)
To launch CESAR from the 'Showroom Enquiries - Select a Franchise' form:
After selecting a CESAR-enabled franchise:
The Showroom Enquiries - Select A Franchise form is displayed and a CESAR-enabled franchise is selected.
Click the Launch Vehicle Configurator button
on the toolbar or select Tools > Launch Vehicle Configurator from the menu bar.
Tip: If neither the Launch Vehicle Configurator button on the toolbar or the Tools > Launch Vehicle Configurator option on the menu bar are available, you may have not selected a CESAR-enabled franchise or you may have selected more that one. In either case, return to step 3 and select one CESAR-enabled franchise.
Autoline Showroom launches a browser linking to CESAR.
Note: For details of using what is displayed inside the browser, in other words the CESAR internet site itself, refer to Mercedes-Benz documentation.
Finish the post-CESAR part of the new vehicle quotation process.
The process completes.
To launch CESAR from the 'Showroom Enquiries - Select a Model' form:
After selecting a CESAR-enabled franchise:
The Showroom Enquiries - Select A Franchise form is displayed.
Click the Next button
.
The Select a Model form is displayed.
Tip: You may select a model before connecting to CESAR, in which case that selection is transmitted to CESAR when you connect, or you may connect to CESAR without having selected a model. In the latter case, CESAR enables you to select a model.
Click the Launch Vehicle Configurator button
on the toolbar or select Tools > Launch Vehicle Configurator from the menu bar.
Autoline Showroom launches a browser linking to CESAR.
Note: If you have selected (ticked) a model before connecting to CESAR, that selection is transmitted to CESAR. If not, you need to select a model from the Dealer front end (DFE).
Tip: If you select more than one model in the Select a Model form, CESAR shows only one - the first model selected. Although you can use CESAR to configure more than one vehicle, we do not recommend it because CESAR can download only one to Autoline Showroom.
Finish the post-CESAR part of the new vehicle quotation process.
The process completes.
To launch CESAR from the 'Vehicles Matching Criteria Entered...' form (for selecting a variant):
Follow steps 1 to 5 in To launch CESAR from the Showroom Enquiries - Select a Model form.
The Select a Model form is displayed.
Click the Next button
.
The Vehicles Matching Criteria Entered... form is displayed.
Select a variant line and click the Next button
.
One of two things happens, depending on whether the vehicle is available from stock or not:
If the variant line selected is in black text, indicating that there is not one in stock, clicking Next
launches the Autoline browser, linking to CESAR to specify a new vehicle.
Note: Depending on the parameters, the customer details may also be required, if they have not already been selected.
If the variant line selected is in red or blue text, indicating that there is one available from stock, clicking Next
displays the Vehicles in Stock form.
Note:
If the selected variant is in stock, on clicking the Next
you are prompted to make a further selection, when you can choose either the local stock vehicle or configure a new vehicle in CESAR. If local stock is selected, Autoline checks automatically with CESAR that the vehicle is still available for sale, that is, it has not been sold or reserved by another dealer. If CESAR is unavailable you cannot continue with the sale of the vehicle.
Note: During installation of CESAR, where there are vehicle records already in the Autoline vehicle stock books module, it is possible to sell that stock using the Autoline Showroom process. However, the CESAR stock availability check is not carried out because there is no record of that stock in the CESAR configuration details.
Finish the post-CESAR part of the new vehicle quotation process.
The process completes.
After completing CESAR details:
When you have completed the CESAR process, exit the browser.
The offer is automatically downloaded from CESAR to Autoline Showroom and it is validated against Autoline's franchise data. (Any discrepancies are displayed together with an advisory to update franchise data from Mercedes-Benz.) You are returned to Autoline Showroom and placed at a point in the quotation process dependant on the completeness of the vehicle specification. For example, on being placed at the Specification Confirmation form, it contains a buildable configuration and correct retail prices, the record being saved to the configuration details file.
Note: Only ONE offer configuration can be downloaded into Showroom per session.
What happens next depends on whether this is the first time the configuration is downloaded or a subsequent occasion:
The first time an enquiry is created and the configuration downloaded from CESAR to Autoline, you are placed in the Specification Confirmation form containing the configuration and retail prices. (The configuration record is written to the configuration details file.)
If an existing enquiry is amended and the offer changed, a further configuration is downloaded from CESAR to Showroom. Showroom compares it to the previous (stored) specification and any differences are displayed in an Options Compare form. See Recalling and Amending Enquiry Records.
Proceed with the normal Autoline Showroom quotation process to the ordering and confirmation stages, adding dealer options, warranties, insurance, and other items that are not the responsibility of the factory.
The process completes.
Note: The facility for producing an enquiry for multiple vehicles, after the model, variant and options have been selected, has been turned off in the CESAR-enabled variant of Showroom.
