This help topic, part of Add/Modify Accounts, deals with the BACS Tab of the Sales Ledger account record. A clear understanding of the information in it will be essential to all users.

You are shown the details regarding the payment of the selected account by BACS (Bank Automated Clearing System). The BACS payment information is presented under the following fields:

Tip: To check that these fields have been correctly saved, please select SL > Display SL accounts > BACS Tab.

Payment by BACS

This is a Yes/No flag to indicate whether this account is being paid through BACS payments. When set to Y, enables editing of the BACS fields. When this flag is set to 'N' the other fields on this tab are disabled.

BACS Account name

This is the customers Bank Account name from which the BACS payments are going to be withdrawn.

BACS Sort code

This is the Sort code of the Bank from which the BACS payments are going to be withdrawn.

BACS Account Number

This is the Account Number within the Bank from which the BACS payments are going to be withdrawn.

BACS Account Type

Bank Accounts for BACS payments have to be of a special type. This type will be given to you when your customer agrees to make payments by BACS. This field will be set to 1 unless you are told something different by your customer.

Consolidated payment

This check box, if ticked ticked, indicates that the BACS payments will be a net value of Invoices and Credit Notes selected for payment instead of two BACS entries: one for Invoices and one for Credit Notes.

BACS user reference

Holds the direct debit reference number issued by the bank. When a user takes a BACS payment from a customer, a specific reference must be submitted to the bank. Entering a specific user reference on a Sales Ledger account ensures the transactions from this account are easily identifiable upon export from BACS. Type in the required user reference. If a user reference does not exist for an account, the user reference field within BACS items uses the default.
