File Information Form

This form is displayed when you select Tools > File Information from the menu bar or you click the File Information toolbar button About.gif on the Edit File (...) Form. It displays statistics and general information about the file.

File details:

Statistics File size Used records Percent used
Record size: Maximum number of data records the file can store Number of data records currently stored in the file Ratio of Used records (data) to File size as a percentage
Index size: Maximum number of index records the file can store Number of index records currently stored in the file Ratio of Used records (index) to File size as a percentage
General information  
File size: Server disk space (in bytes) occupied by the data file
Space on disk: Server disk space (in bytes) available on the disk partition used to store the MSS data files

Options PUSH BUTTONS:

Extend: Enables you to increase the maximum file size (by up to 100% at a time), the extension specified as a percentage of its current value

Note: Ensure that there is enough disk space before Extending the file.

Re-index: Rebuilds the index, clearing invalid or dead records from the index, enabling faster access to the data.

Note: If an index file is full, it prevents the user writing new records to the data file, in which case you should Re-index it.

Verify: Checks the file and displays a message, for example:

File verifies OK at level 3

Warning: The Initialise button enables you to permanently re-initialise the selected file, removing all its data.

Initialise: Permanently re-initialises the file, removing ALL its data, after prompting you for confirmation
