GDX definitions define the characteristics of an extract. Standard functionality exists to create a set of parameters, or to amend, display or delete existing parameters.
To access GDX definitions:
From the VOLVO UK OPERATIONS menu, select the General utilities option.
The MS UTILITIES MENU is displayed.
Select the ADP utilities option.
The ADP utilities menu is displayed.
Select the Data extract menu option.
The GENERIC DATA EXPORT MENU is displayed.
Select the GDX Definitions option.
The GDX Definition form is displayed.
Enter the GDX type and press the TAB key.
Tip: A list of valid GDX types is available from the drop-down menu.
The system supplies the default data in the fields of the form.
This form is displayed when you select GENERIC DATA EXPORT MENU > GDX Definitions. It enables you to define the characteristics of an extract.
GDX type: A unique identifier for the extract. You can enter a maximum of ten characters.
About this export:
Description: Description of the data extract. This description appears on the main extract form.
Comments: Message displayed as a note on the Volvo new and used data capture form.
Picture path: Directory on the system where extract files are created and stored.
File details:
Export directory: Directory on the system where extract files are created and stored.
Export filename: File on the system into which the data is extracted.
File match string: Search match string that determines which files are displayed when you view an extract. The system searches the xfer directory for the first seven characters.
Ascii/Csv/Edi: GDX file format used for writing the extract (Ascii, CSV or Edifact).
Write mode: GDX write mode (Overwrite an existing file or append new data to the end of an existing file).
Transfer type: Unique code that identifies the file transfer definition record. This is used when you transfer the extracted file from the system to the manufacturer.
Default date flag: Default extract date for the system to use. One of:
C: Current day (today's date)
P: Previous day (yesterday's date)
X: Date not required for this extract
Backdata days: Default setting for the number of days between the start and the end date of the extract. Volvo Service History Extracts do not require a date, so this field must be set to 0.
History:
Last run date: Date the previous extract was run.
For: Point-of-Sale company for which the previous extract was run.
By: User ID of the person who ran the previous extract.
Instance: The number of times the extract has been run.
Buttons:
Exit: Returns you to the GENERIC DATA EXPORT MENU.
Amend: Redisplays the form containing the same record, but with its contents editable.
Delete: Displays a Confirm input dialog box, enabling deletion of the displayed record.
Create: Redisplays the form containing a new record with its contents editable.
Tip: To save time creating a new GDX definition, display an existing record and, with the Clone check box ticked, click Create. The displayed record's contents are copied to the edit form's fields, ready for editing. Otherwise, with the Clone check box unticked when you click Create, the fields are blank.
Save: Stores the updated or newly created record.
Cancel: Abandons the update or creation of a record.
Note: The Save and Cancel buttons are active only when amending or creating a record, in which case the Exit, Amend, Delete, and Create buttons are unavailable.

Check box:
Clone: A tick indicates that the content of the displayed record is copied (cloned) when you click the Create button, rather than the fields of the new record being blank.
