Creating WIP Labour Lines

When all the required customer, vehicle, account and order information are entered onto the WIP header, you can proceed to input the labour operations that are to be performed on the vehicle. Labour operations are input via the first field of the New product group box on the Point-of-Sale form. Two options are available to put a new product line onto the WIP:

  1. Type in the required Repair Time Schedule (RTS) code preceded by a space and press the TAB key.

  2. Use the word-search option. To do this, simply type in a word or group of up to three words (preceded by a space, and each word separated by a single space), that you think may exist within the RTS record so that the system can match them in its search of the RTS code file.

For example, if a search is made for service oil, any record containing both these words is displayed, together with the RTS code, short name and description. Naturally, if just the word service is used, the search results in a greater number of matches and all such matches are displayed. To select the required RTS code, double-click the operation. The word search takes a little practice but is a particularly useful tool for identifying records from within what can possibly be a very large RTS code file.

Note: The word search utility is not case sensitive, so the input of upper of lower case letters has no impact on the search results.

To create a labour line:

  1. Enter the RTS code using one of the two methods described above.

Note: The New product field is used to input both parts lines and service operations. It is important to note that all RTS codes input must be preceded by a single space, otherwise the system assumes the input to be parts related, and searches the parts files instead of the RTS code files.

If the operation is found on the RTS code file, the Labour Details form is displayed.

  2. Complete the labour details and click OK to load the operation onto the WIP.

Note: Not all of the fields in this form may be edited, some are for information only. Any field that is disabled is not available for edit purposes, and any field that is enabled may be changed for the purposes of the current WIP. Changes made within this form generally only influence the current transaction. For example, a change made to the Time allowed here would not be a permanent change within the RTS code file, but only affects the current sale.
