Log File Search

This program is similar to the log file enquiry but provides three major differences. Firstly there is much greater selection criteria, secondly the output can be directed either to screen or printer, and thirdly the output contains some additional data. The other advantage of this program versus the log file enquiry is that you can page backwards as well as forwards.

To run a log file search:

  • Click Log file search within the reports & enquiries menu
  • Complete the following fields to complete the search:
  • References

    Batch Number: The number assigned to a group of batch documents/files.

    Item in batch: This number represents the number within the batch.

    Vehicle Type: Indicate whether the vehicle is New or Used.

    Stockbook number: The stockbook number consists of six digits, numeric only and does not include the New or Used indicator. (e.g. 000123.)

    Cost Reference: The invoice or document number.

    Field Name: Indicates the field name affected by the transaction, also can display the occurrence number (if applicable.)

    Date References

    Transaction Date: From and To.

    Reference Date: From and To.

    Source User References

    Partition No: From which the transaction was posted.

    User ID: or login code who posted the transaction.

    When all known relevant fields are entered Click the OK button, a grid will appear showing the following fields and it's information:

    Log File Transaction

    S: New or Used vehicle.

    Vehicle: Vehicle Stockbook Number.

    Batch: Batch number.

    Item: Item number within batch.

    Tran date: Transaction posting date.

    Ref date: Reference date, from and to.

    Cost ref: Cost Reference, (e.g. invoice or document number.)

    Field Name: Indicates the name affected by the transaction.

    Occ: Occurrence number.

    Old Value: The value against that field before the transaction took place.

    New Value: The value against that field after the transaction took place.

    S: The accounts status before the transaction and after the transaction.

    P: The progress code before the transaction and after.

    User Id: Users ID who made the transaction.

    Locn: The location where the transaction took place.

    Buttons

    Exit: Returns you to the VS Reports and Enquiries Menu.

    Help: Displays help on the current application in your default company browser.

    Display: Processes the log file search and displays the results on the form.

    Print: Sends the results on the form to the pre-selected printer.

    Reset Criteria: Clears all criteria entered on the form.
