The Communication Types form maintains the communication types record of the configured processing module for the selected external system ID.
Tip: Please consider to use the Add Default Communication Types function to create all relevant communication types automatically instead of adding all required communication types manually.
What do you want to do?
This form is displayed when you click Manufacturer-specific > MB. Mercedes-Benz > Menu - Utilities > StarConnect Data Server > StarConnect data server to display the Communication Module form, you select the required External system ID and Communication types tab and click one of the following menu bar commands: File > New, File > Edit, or, Edit > Copy. It maintains the communication types record of the configured processing module for the selected external system ID.

Fields:
External system ID: Displays the he GSSN dealer number of the main outlet of the dealer (retailer) for the selected communication type.
Note: The External system ID is available for selection, when you are creating or copying a new communication type record. The external system ID's are available based on the mapping of the StarConnect Data Server Parameters - [External System ID <-> Company Mapping] form and the Autoline user's access level for the concerning module/company.

Event: Enter the event of the communication type as configured by the StarConnect Data Server function or any other related topics. For example, CREATE, UPDATE, READ or NOTIFICATION_REQUEST.
Description: Enter the description of the use for the communication type. This description is also included in emails that are sent when receiving and sending data.
General settings:
Switch On/Off: Select to make the communication type available for communication in Timed operations. Clear the selection to put the communication for this communication type on hold.
Direction: Displays the icon that indicates the direction of the data transfer for the concerning communication type:
Choose data direction: The data is not transferred.
Inbound: The data is received from the STCDS.
Outbound: The data is sent to the STCDS.
Synchronous: Initiated by Autoline, Autoline will sent data to the STCDS and a response is received instantly.
Purge archive after: Enter the number of days after which data is purged from the communication archive (inbound and outbound) for the corresponding communication type. This field can overrule the Default purge days setting of the of the StarConnect Data Server Parameters. The Default purge days setting of the StarConnect Data Server Parameters is used if this Purge archive after field is set to zero. Default: 0 days.
Inform on failure: Enter the email address to which an email is sent as well, next to the email set in the System manager email of the of the StarConnect Data Server Parameters, when the communication failed with an error code. This field is optional.
Inform on Success: Enter the email address to which an email is sent, when new data is received or sent to the data server. This field is optional.
Processing module: Select on of the available processing modules for the selected external system ID:
[Blank]: Not selected, leave blank if no special validation of the data received is needed, nor direct processing after receiving data is required.

Request counter: Enter, if required, the last request number. Standard the function which is using this communication type stores the unique number for the number of requests generated here.
Note: Only applicable for outbound communication requests and if sequence counting is required by the remote system.
Schedule:
Configure the communication type to download on scheduled time periods the data from the server or upload outstanding outbound requests to the server.
Type: Select the applicable schedule type, the available options are depending on the direction.

Start at: Enter the start time from when the schedule is run for this communication type.
End at: Enter the end time until when the schedule is run for this communication type.
Run every: Enter the frequency (in minutes) the schedule is run between the entered start and end time.
Note: Only applicable for schedule type 0 - Interval.
Day to run on: Select the day of the week or day of the month when the schedule is run.

Process immediately: Select to transfer the file immediately after the file is created.
Large file handling:
Here you can define the actions needed, in case the STCDS provides large files (> 1MB) as an attachment to the SOAP request.
Note: Only applicable for inbound and synchronous communication types.
Uncompress attachment: Select if the attachments for this communication type are provided as a GZIP document and Autoline should uncompress the file and store it uncompressed in the inbound queue. By default is this parameter is set, which means that the received data is uncompressed.
Attachment file extension: Enter the file extension for the data when it is stored in the inbound queue which is received as an attachment. Default extension .xml is used if the Uncompress attachment field is selected. Default extension .gz is used if the Uncompress attachment field is cleared (blank).
Last run:
Displays when the last communication attempt is done and what the result of that communication attempt was. The date- and timestamp (Date and Time fields) are used to retrieve new data from the data server.
Note: The Date and Time fields are available for change for Autoline users with a priority level of 8 or higher.
Date: Displays the date that the last communication has run.
Time: Displays the time that the last communication has run.
Result code: Displays the result code and description of the last communication transfer.
Last result: Displays the additional information about the last communication attempt.
To amend a communication type record:
On the master menu, select Manufacturer-specific > MB. Mercedes-Benz > Menu - Utilities > StarConnect Data Server > StarConnect data server.
The Communication Module form is displayed.
Select the required External system ID > Communication types tab > communication type required in the grid, and click the File > Edit menu bar command.
The Communication Types form is displayed (display mode) populated with the details of the selected communication type.
Click the File > Edit menu bar command.
Note: This option is only available for Autoline users with a priority level of 7 or higher.
The Communication Types form is displayed (edit mode), enter the changes required.
Click the File > Save menu bar command.
The Communication Types form is displayed (display mode) populated with the changed details of the selected communication type.
To copy a communication type record:
On the master menu, select Manufacturer-specific > MB. Mercedes-Benz > Menu - Utilities > StarConnect Data Server > StarConnect data server.
The Communication Module form is displayed.
Select the required External system ID > Communication types tab > communication type required in the grid, and click the Edit > Copy menu bar command.
Note: This copy function is only available for Autoline users with a priority level of 7 or higher.
The Communication Types form is displayed (edit mode) populated with the details of the selected record. The combination of the following communication type details are unique:
Click the File > Save menu bar command.
The Communication Types form is displayed (display mode) populated with the changed details of the selected communication type.
Note: A Failed to save the record message is displayed when a communication type record is already existing.
To delete a communication type record:
On the master menu, select Manufacturer-specific > MB. Mercedes-Benz > Menu - Utilities > StarConnect Data Server > StarConnect data server.
The Communication Module form is displayed.
Select the required External system ID > Communication types tab > communication type required in the grid, and click the File > Edit menu bar command.
The Communication Types form is displayed (display mode) populated with the details of the selected communication type.
Click the File > Delete menu bar command.
Note: This option is only available for Autoline users with a priority level of 7 or higher.
The Confirm message is displayed.
Click Yes to confirm.
Deletes the corresponding communication type record and refreshes the grid on the Communication Module form.
The download function is only available for inbound communication types. Using this function forces a check for new data on the data server for the selected communication type.
To download data records from the STCDS:
On the master menu, select Manufacturer-specific > MB. Mercedes-Benz > Menu - Utilities > StarConnect Data Server > StarConnect data server.
The Communication Module form is displayed.
Select the required External system ID > Communication types tab > communication type (inbound) required in the grid, and click the File > Edit menu bar command.
The Communication Types form is displayed populated with the details of the selected communication type.
Click the Tools > Download menu bar command.
The last result field on the record indicates the status of the last download request. It possible to force download of files that were fetched before if the files are not available in the inbound queue, depending on your user permissions a Download all files message is displayed.
Note: The Download all files message is only available for support purposes. Do one of the following (a or b):
Click Yes, to make a selection period available for which you can download data from the server.
The Download Time Frame dialog box is displayed. Do the following:
Complete the details in the date and time fields, to download all available data from a certain date- and timestamp onwards.
The current date and time are used for the To date and time fields, when these are left blank.
Click the File > Save menu bar command.
A request is done to the data server for all the data available for selected communication type in the specified period.
Click No, to force the data server to return only new files that where not downloaded before.
This is the default usage when an end-user is doing the download request or the download request is executed in the daemon.
The Select Data To Download form is displayed prior to the download, the grid is populated with a list of available data on the data server.
Search and select the data required and click the File > Download menu bar command.
The Asynchronous download progress indicator (gauge) is displayed to keep track of the progress.
