Using Menus

...with the Mouse

...with the Keyboard

Tip: If you select a menu option in error press the ESCAPE key or click the Exit button.

Common Menu Push Buttons

All menus have most of the buttons listed, and some menus have all of them.

OK: Activates the highlighted menu option

Exit: Closes the displayed menu. With few exceptions you are returned to the menu or form from which you originally invoked the menu you just closed.

Cancel: Some menus have a Cancel button instead of an Exit button. Like the Exit button, the Cancel button closes the displayed menu.

Help: Displays, in a web browser, a help page describing the menu. Links on the help page, embedded in its text and in the form of buttons at the top and bottom of the page, enable you to view other help pages.

Tip: Some links embedded in the text, such as the example embedded in the above paragraph, merely jump to a place on the same page.

Utilities: Displays the Utilities menu, providing access to the marketing system, mailed reports and other options depending on your level of access permissions.

Administrator: Displays the Electronic Administrator form, which provides email, diary, fax, and phone book functions

Change... printer: Displays a menu of printers to change the selected printer

Note: Subsequent help pages omit describing the function of these common menu buttons. Their functions are consistent throughout Autoline.

Common Menu Fields

Note: Subsequent help pages omit describing the function of these common fields. Their functions are consistent throughout Autoline.

Broadcast: Messages sent to all users logged in at a particular moment are displayed in this group box. Typically such messages are system administration-related, such as prior notification of facilities being temporarily taken off line.

Name and version: The menu's name and the Autoline release version

Options list box: The menu's principal field, normally positioned at centre or centre-left, it contains the selectable options; what the menu is actually about

Note: The contents of menus depend on your login user details stored in the system. Some colours, including the main list box background, are configurable.

Printer: Lists the currently selected printer

Language: If you select a different language from this drop-down menu, when you click the OK button to display a menu or form, the language variant of that menu or form is displayed.

Text: To redisplay the menu or form in a text mode reminiscent of a non-graphic display terminal, tick the Text check box and click the OK button

Tip: You cannot easily revert to the original display style after changing to text mode
