Selection of Edit Profit from the Tools Menu Bar presents an Edit Contract Margin box which enables the default profit margin to be edited for the current quotation or ratesbook or contract rewrite.
In addition to displaying the form name the Title Bar provides a number of useful buttons.
The profit margin value that is displayed here is the result of an interplay between two distinct fields:
The top-level default margin is set up within the Quotations Defaults Tab in System Maintenance/System Parameters. This can be overridden at customer level (see the Fleet Details Command Button within the Companies Tab in the Marketing module). Finally, the margin can also be edited at a quotation level by utilising Edit Margin from the Tools menu bar option).
Profit can be expressed in a number of different ways. A switch is set within the Calculation Details Tab in System Maintenance / System Parameters to determine which profit calculation method is used; currently available methods are as follows:
M Monthly Value
T %age of Total Costs (inc. Total Overhead )
B %age of Basic Price
D %age of Discounted Basic Price
F Finance Profit
O %age of OTR
P %age of Funded Capital * Period
The Margin and Profit fields interact and the resultant quoted profit for the quotation becomes part of the rental calculation. Because of this interaction, the Margin can be input as either a monetary or a percentage value.
If, for example, Monthly Value is selected as the contract Profit calculation method, then the Margin value that is held in the Quotations Default Tab, and ultimately displayed in the Edit Contract Margin box, is the monthly monetary value and should be edited as such.
Should any of the %age options be selected as the contract Profit calculation method, then the Margin value that is held in the Quotations Default Tab, and ultimately displayed in the Edit Contract Margin box, is a percentage value and should be edited as such.
The Command Buttons in the Edit Contract Margin form function as follows:
On display of the Edit Contract Margin box, the existing margin value is highlighted and can be immediately overridden by entering a new value. This button saves an amendment and returns the new value to the primary Quotations form to recalculate the rental.
A minimum and maximum margin is displayed at the bottom of the Edit Margin form. This is defined at individual user level within the Fleet Tab of the User Details form (found within System Utilities / Management Menu) . The FQ Min Margin % and FQ Max Margin % are used to limit the margin parameters and may be different for each user.
Returns to the primary Quotations form without saving any changes.
