In the Autoline accounting suite, postings to the Nominal Ledger are made via a table called the posting buffer. (It is also frequently referred to as the 'invoice' buffer.)
In any given module, the mechanism for actually updating the Nominal Ledger is the production of daybooks, which then flags the transactions in the buffer as having been posted. As there is frequently a delay between posting and production of daybooks (in many installations all daybooks are printed by the overnight run), it is obviously essential to be able to enquire on postings that are in the buffer. The View posting buffer menu option provides this facility.
A key element in the efficiency of this option is the use of the transaction selection screen, which allows you to enter a variety of search criteria, some of which use the 'wild card' feature (for example 'Narrative') and some of which are specific (for example, range of posting dates). The buffer is searched by any combination of criteria you enter.
The posting buffer, its contents and the search criteria on the transaction selection screen are described in detail in the Nominal Ledger on-line help. However note the following with regard to the transactions generated by the accruals posting run:
The source module is 'AJ' (for 'Accrual Journals').
The journal reference is set as the accrual number.
On selecting View posting buffer
from the main menu the Selection Criteria form is presented with the
cursor at the first field Posting
Date. Enter your search criteria as required. Click the
button to enable you to choose dates.
To display your selection click the Execute button. The transactions are displayed, showing the most relevant details.
Reset: In order to do a further search with fresh criteria, it is necessary to clear the Selection Criteria form of your previous criteria. Click the Reset button to perform the 'clear down'.
Tip: Although it is possible to overtype 'specific' criteria such as date range, this option provides the ONLY way of resetting 'wild card' fields.
Exit: Click the Exit button to return you to the main accruals menu.
After clicking the Execute button, a display form titled Search Results appears. It shows a table of the main information about transactions. It has two main buttons. These are Detail and Close. The Detail button becomes enabled when a record has been selected from the grid.
Detail: Choose a transaction by using the mouse or using up and down arrow keys. The selected transaction is highlighted in blue. Double click on your chosen transaction to see more information about it, or alternatively click the Detail button. The details form has two tabs; called page 1 and page 2 respectively . Select the tabs to view the information on each of them.
Close: Click the Close button to return you to the Selection Criteria form.
