Viewing or Printing a System Log File

The status of each operation run from the Agent, including the starting and stopping of the Agent itself, is logged. You can access the log using the View/Print System Log File form.

View/Print System Log File Form

The View/Print System Log File form is displayed when you click System Utilities > Timed Operation Menu > View/print system log file.

Each entry in the event log is displayed as a line in the grid as follows:

Date: Date of the event.

Time: Time of the event.

L: An error reporting level (1 = successful 5 = any other message 9 = serious error).

Source: Source of the event.

Option: Operation description.

Message: Message describing the events status.

Date selection

On entering the log file, the date selected is defaulted to today's date.

On changing the date selection, the list of events is refreshed.

Level selection

On entering the log viewer, all levels will be selected. This can be refined by entering or selecting a level at which to start reporting.

Tip: Select the drop down menu facility, adjacent to the levels field, to view and select the correct level.

On changing the level selection, the list of events is refreshed.

Company selection

On entering the log viewer, events for all companies can be viewed. This is indicated by the company selection control being set to **.

It is possible to restrict the view of events by entering a specific company in this control, but it is not possible to search for a company to select.

On changing the company selection, the list of events is refreshed.

Module selection

On entering the log viewer, all modules are selected. This is indicated by the module selection control being set to ** No filter.

It is possible to restrict the view of events to those matching a specific module, either by entering a module mnemonic or selecting a module from the drop down list of modules, adjacent to the Module field.

On changing the module selection, the list of events will be refreshed.

Printing the event log

The events appearing in the log viewer can be printed to the currently selected printer by clicking the Print button.

Tip: Both the view and the printed output are restricted by the selections made above.

Access to the AUTOLINE service administrator

On systems running under Windows NT, and on clients running under Windows NT, it is possible to access the AUTOLINE service administrator (Kservadm) by clicking the Kservadm button.

View/print output log file

As well as reporting all completed or failed operations in the event log, the Agent also reports its own status, that is what has started and when, what it will start next.

  1. From the SYSTEM UTILITIES MENU select the Timed operations option, and click OK.

The TIMED OPERATIONS MENU is displayed.

  2. Select the View/print output log file option, and click OK.

A View output log form is displayed.

These are plain text log files, held on a daily basis for one week.

Day of the week to view

On entering the output log viewer, this control defaults to today's day of the week, 1 being Monday.

This may be altered by entering a number between 1 and 7, representing the day of the week to view, in this control. You can select the drop down menu facility, adjacent to the Day of the Week field, to help make your selection.

Printing the output log file

By setting the Print check box to a tick, the output log file for the day of the week selected will be printed to the currently selected printer instead of being viewed.

Processing the selection

Having selected the day of the week, and opted to view or print the output file, click the Process button and the file will be viewed or printed.

To exit the viewer, click the Cancel button.
