Introduction

Note: This help system contains information only for GM.

RIM is the GM parts stock replenisher system. It controls selected line items and holding levels for GM parts. Autoline generates daily parts sales extract files, which you send to GM. GM then sends back advice note files based on those extracts.

RIM calculates from the parts sales extract the stock holding for RIM parts. It also monitors non-RIM parts and recommends inclusion of new parts should the sales pattern match RIM requirements. The reverse is also true in that, when current RIM parts drop outside inclusion criteria, they are removed from the RIM system. In the latter case, manual control of these parts is handed back to the dealership using the Part lines tab of the GM RIM form.

The RIM extract, which is a generated stock report in the stock replenishment system, is sent to the dealer electronically where it is picked up by the Autoline system and imported into the Purchase Control module. After the order is created in Purchase Control, it can be electronically received into stock.

Process

The overall process is this:

  1. Parts sales data is extracted from the sales log file and stored.

  2. A daily extract (as a timed operation) reads the sales log file and compiles sales data over the past month and stores it in a file ready to send to GM.

  3. You use the GM RIM program to place the extract file in the transmission queue that sends it to GM.

  4. The following day, you receive an order from GM, and you upload the data to your Autoline system via the Advice notes upload program.

  5. The advice notes program then enables you to accept or reject an order, and then to receive the stock in Purchase Control.

There is a strict sequence of tasks to perform in the RIM software:

Warning: If this routine is not followed, the data can become corrupted and cause multiple stock orders to be placed.

  1. Morning: Process orders and advice notes.

A timed operation automatically creates a RIM extract around noon.

  2. Afternoon: Send the RIM extract to GM.

Set-up

Before you transfer any files to GM, you must ensure that the Autoline system is correctly set up. This is usually carried out by, or on advice from, a consultant.
