Build CAP Database

The build CAP Database enables CAP valuation data to be taken from a source and imported into Autoline. Follow the three steps below to upload and build the CAP database.

Radio button options are available to enable the transfer of new or existing data to the Autoline files as displayed below.

  • Upload files from CAP

  • Upload PC file

  • Build CAP database

    The following is a brief description of the options available on the Build CAP Database. Upload Files from CAP is the automated routine that should be used to upload and transfer new data each month and incorporates the other items shown on the database. In the event of a problem or failure, it may be necessary to run subsequent parts of the process individually. For a full description see the topic Build CAP database.

    Select either of the three radio button options.

    Upload files from CAP: Loads the CAP files from floppy disk or CD onto your PC and transfers the data to the Autoline files. See the topic Build CAP database).

    Upload PC files: Loads the CAP files from your PC and transfers the data to the Autoline files.

    Upload files from CAP

  • Click on the Upload files from CAP radio button.

    Tip: Select the required method from the two below. Ensure that the CAP floppy disk or CD is inserted into the appropriate drive. There may be more than one floppy disk, users will be prompted to change disks as an when required.

  • Using a CD Click in the tick box when the source of data is a CD - this will override the A and B drives. To find the required drive on your local PC select the process button to show a list of your PC's drives. Select the drive where the CD is located, drill into the explorer tree to locate the data held on the disc for instance E:/20040601-blackbook-ascii.exe click select to confirm your choice.

    Note: After clicking the select button the files will need to be extracted from a zip file to a directory named C:\CAP on your PC - this directory must be created manually. Once the extract is complete the next step of the process is to Upload PC file.

  • I have another floppy for new vehicle coding Tick the check box if importing the CAP black book "Enhanced Description File" from another floppy disk. Do not tick this option if importing from a CD.

  • Click on the Process button.

    Note: The following message will now be displayed in a DOS window:

  • This Batch File will copy and expand the ASCII files onto your Hard Disk and put them in a directory called C:\CAP as in System parameters

  • Press ^C (Shift 6) if you do not want to continue. If you press ^C ( ^ symbol represents the Ctrl key) you will be returned to the Build CAP Database screen. Cancelling the process.

  • Press any key to continue

  • If you choose to continue by pressing any other key, the files are expanded and copied to the hard disk of your PC. When the files have been copied, you are returned to a press Continue when floppy has copied window.

  • Click on Continue and then click on the OK button. You are returned to Build CAP Database. You know need to Build CAP database.

    Upload PC File

    Upload PC File: This option uploads the CAP raw data files from the PC across to the server. When this option is selected it checks the system parameter DOS directory for files to identify where the raw data files are currently held on the local PC. If any raw data files are located they will be displayed in the window below. Highlight the data file before clicking on the process button to invoke the upload. The raw data files are transferred and stored on the server in 'Directory on host for files' . This process must be run before the files can be converted and updated into franchise data files.

    Tip: CAP raw data is compressed data and can be obtained directly from the cap website subject to subscription. It should be saved into the PC directory as specified within the System parameters

    Build CAP database

    Warning: Build CAP database will overwrite any existing data. Please ensure all required data types are selected for instance Light commercial and Used cars.

    After running Upload PC file click the Build CAP database radio button, select the month (for example July) from the selection that has just been enabled below and click the process button.

    Progress: The database will now build, you can follow it's progress with the progress bar. A prompt will indicate when the import is complete.

    Buttons:

    Close Returns to the CAP main menu.

    Help: Displays help on the current application in your default company browser.

    Process: Click to process the required data.
