The Copy vehicle specification form is displayed, when the Copy vehicle specifications option is selected from the DD BUILD SPECIFICATION menu.
As the working specification is the only one that can be edited then this routine is necessary if the previous, current or next specifications require amendment. Also once a working specification has been created or amended then it needs to be instated or re-instated as the previous, current or next generation.
Warning: In view of the ramifications of overwriting the 'live' data, it is recommended that a data back up is taken prior to this option being run. This is part of the 'end-of-day' routine which is run overnight, therefore this option should be run the next morning.
Specification generations
In the top section of the form, Specification generations, you need to select a Source specification generation and a Destination specification generation.
Tip: Click on the drop down menu facilities, positioned adjacent to the fields, in order to view the available selections.
The entries in these two fields will be one of the following:
P - Previous specification
C - Current specification
N - Next specification
W - Working specification
There are twelve copy options available, to copy any one of the four generations to the other three.
If a new specification has been set up in the working specification, which is to be applied with immediate effect to the current specification, then the option selected would be:
Source specification generation: Working specification
Destination specification generation: Current specification
If a new specification has been set up in the working specification which is to be available at some time in the future, then the option selected would be:
Source specification generation: Working specification
Destination specification generation: Next specification
Warning: When any 'live' specification copy is carried out, such as Next specification to Current specification, the system will automatically carry out the transfer of the Current specification to Previous specification and remove the old Previous specification.
Therefore when a pending or next specification becomes due for implementation as the current version then you will select the option Next specification to Current specification. The system will carry out two copies automatically by first of all copying the Current specification to Previous specification to move the existing or current specification to the previous one, and possibly removing an 'old' previous specification, and then the Next Specification to Current specification copy.
If a current or next specification requires further amendment then the option would be Current specification to Work specification or Next specification to Work Specification.
