Nibbling Larch and Tarch Files

This option allows you to delete (nibble) data from the labour archive file (larch) and its associated text archive file (tarch) in the event that they are filling up. The system nibbles data to reduce the file size to a pre-determined percentage. These percentages (Nibble at and to) are normally entered by an Autoline consultant on set-up via the Add/modify module files option on the APPLICATION FILES menu, which is accessed via the System utilities menu. The program is normally run by a Timed Operation. The program should only be run manually if advised to do so by support.

Note: You can check if the files are filling up using the File usage statistics option. If any of the files are over eighty per cent full they are highlighted in yellow. If they are over ninety per cent full they are shown in red.

To manually nibble larch and tarch files:

Warning: This option is not normally run during the day because it is run by a Timed Operation.

  1. From the Rev.8 Master Menu, select the Point-of-sale option and Company you require.

The POINT OF SALE menu is displayed.

  2. Select the System maintenance option.

The SO SYSTEM MAINTENANCE menu is displayed.

  3. Select the Nibble larch and tarch files option.

You will get one of the following two results:

    1. If the larch file does not require nibbling, the following message is displayed: SO.larch file does not require nibbling. Click OK.

    2. If the larch file does require nibbling, a dialog box is displayed with the message: Confirm nibble SO.larch and SO.tarch files. Click OK. The system copies the SO.larch file into a working directory, sorts the records by date, rewrites the SO.larch file to the pre-determined percentage, and renames the associated tarch file.

You are returned to the SO SYSTEM MAINTENANCE menu
