Resetting In-Use Flags

Data files on a multi-user system, like Autoline, while being accessed in read-write mode when creating or modifying records, have their in-use flag set to prevent similar access by another user. Such file-locking prevents more than one user simultaneously attempting to alter a file, and one overwriting the other's modifications when he/she saves it. Depending on the module and/or file, locking may be of the whole file or only of its record(s) open for read/write.

Note: In-use flags are reset automatically in the end-of-day procedure timed operation.

A problem arises when, because of, for example, power failure or oversight, a user's terminal shuts down without relinquishing a file's or a record's in-use flag. The file or record is then inaccessible by other users who may need to update it.


To reset a file's or a record's in-use flag:

Warning: This program MUST ONLY be run when there are no other users using the module. If run with users logged in, data files could be damaged. Use the Prevent and Allow Access form to bar further access to the module and clear all existing users before re setting the in-use flags.

  1. From the Autoline master menu select the customer contact management option

    The Customer Contact Management menu is displayed.

  2. Select the System maintenance option

    The CM System Maintenance menu is displayed.

  3. Select the Prevent/allow access option

    The Prevent/allow Access form is displayed.

  4. Check that no users are logged into the module, logging them off if necessary, and exit the Prevent/allow Access form

    You are returned to the CM System Maintenance menu.

  5. Select the Reset in use flags option

    The Reset In-Use Flags form is displayed.

  6. Select the Company button on the Reset in use flags form

    The Choose Company dialog box is displayed.

  7. Enter a two character company code into the Enter company field and select the OK button.

    You are returned to the Reset in use flags form.

  8. Select the Reset button to unlock the module's files

    The module's files have their in-use (file lock or record lock) flags reset to indicate that they are not being accessed i.e., not in use.


Reset In-Use Flags Form

This form is displayed when you select Reset in use flags from the CM System Maintenance menu.

PUSH BUTTONS:

Company: Displays the Choose company dialog box, which prompts you to enter a company code

Reset: The program accesses the module's files, resetting their in-use flags
