Making and Breaking Assemblies

The Make and break assemblies option allows you to create quantities of assemblies, or to break assemblies back down into their component parts for resale. These functions are usually performed in Stock Management, but can also be carried out in POS (not generally recommended). In order to make/break assemblies the operator must have sufficient priority as determined by a system parameter Make/Break Assembly Priority on the main detail tab of the stock management system parameters.

To make/break assemblies:

Warning: If you continue to make/break assemblies while others are using the stock system, and any of the stock records are locked by another user, it will be necessary to Rebuild assembly flags.

  1. From the Rev.8 Master Menu, select the Stock management option and Company you require.

    The STOCK MANAGEMENT menu is displayed.

  2. Select the Assemblies and kits option and click OK.

    The SM ASSEMBLIES AND KITS menu is displayed.

  3. Select the Make and break assemblies option.

    The Make and Break Assemblies form is displayed.

  4. Do one of the following :

    1. To make an assembly, select the Make radio button.

    2. To break an assembly, select the Break radio button.

  5. Enter the Assembly part number.

    Tip: Click the Ellipsis button [...] to search for an assembly.

  6. Do one of the following:

    1. If you selected the Make radio button, enter the number of assemblies that you want to make in the Quantity to make field.

    2. If you selected the Break radio button, enter the number of assemblies that you want to break in the Quantity to break field.

  7. Do one of the following:

    1. If you are making an assembly, click the Make button.

    2. If you are breaking an assembly, click the Break button.


Make and Break Assemblies Form

The Make and Break Assemblies form is displayed when you select the Make and break assemblies option from the SM ASSEMBLIES AND KITS menu. From this form you can make or break assemblies.

Select one of the following radio buttons:

Complete the following field:

Assembly: Enter the assembly part number that you want to build/break down.

Tip: Click the Ellipsis button [...] to search for an assembly.

The following fields are memorandum-only fields:

Maximum number which can be assembled: The maximum number of assemblies that can be built from the component parts currently in stock.

Current stock of assemblies: The number of assemblies already in stock.

Total cost per unit of components: The current average cost * quantity of all the components in the assembly.

Current cost assembly: The average cost held on the assembly part number the last time an assembly was built.

Total surcharge of components: The surcharge (cost of sale surcharge) * quantity of all components in the assembly.

Surcharge on assembly: The surcharge (cost of sale surcharge) held on the assembly part number the last time an assembly was built.

Total retail cost of components: The retail price * quantity of all the components in the assembly.

Current retail price: The current retail price held on the assembly part number.

Complete one of the following fields according to the selected radio button:

Quantity to make: Enter the number of assemblies that you want to make. This figure must be the same or below the maximum number which can be assembled (the first value in the list).

Quantity to break: This field is displayed if you selected the Break radio button. This value must be the same or below the total number of assemblies currently in stock (the second value in the list).

PUSH BUTTONS:

Exit: Returns you to the SM ASSEMBLIES AND KITS menu.

Help: Displays help on the current application using the default browser.

Make: This button is displayed if the Make radio button is selected. When you have entered the make quantity, click this button to complete the process.

Break: This button is displayed if the Break radio button is selected. When you have entered the break quantity, click this button to complete the process.
