Assemblies and Kits

An Assembly is a number of parts grouped together to sell as one part number, e.g. a bumper assembly. The components are physically removed from their normal bin locations, and held together as a single part number in one bin. The correct quantity of each component is held against the assembly part number. An assembly part must be flagged as a Kit or assembly on the Description tab of the stock record, and the Stock balance item flag must be set to Y. If this is not the case, the part must be amended via Stock file maintenance prior to making the assembly.

A Kit is a single part number that triggers the issue of many parts to a WIP, e.g. a touring kit. Parts are entered onto the WIP with their respective quantities, allowing amendment of quantities or deletion of some parts. The components of a kit are not physically held in one bin. A kit part must be flagged as a Kit or assembly on the Description tab of the stock record, and the Stock balance item field must be set to N. If this is not the case, the part must be amended via Stock file maintenance prior to making the assembly.

With the structure of an assembly in place, it is possible to build quantities of that assembly, or break an existing assembly into its components for resale. These functions are usually performed in Stock Management, but can also be carried out in POS (not generally recommended).
