From time to time, you may be required to return parts to a supplier. For example, a manufacturer may request that you return obsolete parts. In this case, the manufacturer may supply you with a file proposing the parts to be returned. You can use the Customer Returns facility to import this data to the Autoline system.
A series of reports are available to help you interrogate the stock file and assess how many parts to return or keep in stock. When you have reached a decision, you must manually edit the customer returns proposal to adjust the quantity of parts proposed for return. On completion, you should allocate the quantity of parts that you want to return to the Returns location on the Quantities tab of each stock record.
Note: The Returns location on the stock record is normally populated by an update report.
If you subsequently decide to keep some of the parts in stock, you must manually edit the parts out of the Returns location on the stock record back into the Main stock location. When you have updated the stock file, you can generate a returns order in Purchase Control in the normal way.
The SM CUSTOMER RETURNS menu is displayed when you select the Customer returns option from the SM MISCELLANEOUS OPTIONS menu. From this menu, you can import data from the manufacturer, run reports to assess which parts to return to the manufacturer, and edit the customer returns proposal.
