This program is designed to enable you to supersede one part number to another. This is normally done subject to information being supplied by the manufacturer. The main consideration when executing a supersession is whether the old part number is compatible with the new number. This is usually the case and you can normally transfer any existing quantities onto the new part number. You can carry out the supersession in more than one Stock management company.
To supersede a stock line:
From the Rev.8 Master Menu, select the Stock management option and Company you require.
The STOCK MANAGEMENT menu is displayed.
Select the Supersede stock line option and click OK.
The Stock Supersessions form is displayed.
Display the Multiple Company selection form by clicking the ellipsis button.
The company you have selected is displayed but its details are uneditable.
Note: Additional companies that have stock of the part number are displayed. These can be selected individually, or you can select all companies by clicking the header of the tick column.
Enter the Old part number.
Tip: Click the Ellipsis button to search for a part number.
Select the required check box options and enter the New part number.
If the new part number already has a stock record, the following message is displayed:
Stock record already exists
Do one of the following:
Click the Continue button to continue using the new part number.
Click the Quit button to enter a different part number.
Click the Supersede button.
If the supersession is successful, a Completed OK message is displayed in the status bar.
This form is displayed when you click STOCK MANAGEMENT menu > Supersede stock line. You can use the form to supersede a part.
Old part number: Part number to be superseded. Click the Ellipsis button
to search for a part.
Company: Company where the supersession takes place.
Note: You can click the Ellipsis button
to display a form enabling you to select multiple supersessions. All companies in which the old part number exists are displayed. You can select each company individually or select all companies by clicking the Select header.
New part number: Superseding part number. Click the Ellipsis button
to search for a part.
Options:
Select the check boxes to indicate which actions the system is to perform when the supersession is carried out:
Transfer stock: Supersedes the old stock in the bins with the new part number.
Transfer P/O: Supersedes part numbers that are compatible with the old number and, at the same time, updates the purchase transaction file with the superseding part number.
Transfer B/O: Transfers any customer backorders for the old part number onto the new part number. This has the effect of updating the WIP record with the superseding part number.
Transfer history: Transfers the old part sales history to the new stock record.
Zero demand on old part: Sets the demand on the old part back to zero as part of the supersession.
Reset re-order category on old part: Enables you to amend the re-order category during the supersession.
Note: The re-order category for supersessions is defined in the Supersede re-order cat field on the Main detail tab of the SM system parameters.
Transfer part description: Keeps the old part description.
Transfer assemblies and kits: Changes the part number for an assembly or kit associated with the old part.
Note: The system warns you if the part being superseded is associated with a kit or an assembly, so you can select this option if required.
Buttons:
Exit: Returns you to the STOCK MANAGEMENT menu.
Help: Displays this help topic in the default browser.
Supersede: Supersedes the old part number with the new part number using the criteria selected with the check box options on this form.
Note: For reporting purposes, if a supersession is carried out on a part that is currently a backordered part or merely a part on order, the original part is recorded in the PORDERED field of the Parts lines and Parts Log files.
