Within the Parts department, the route code is used to record the delivery van route for a customer delivery. It is possible to identify a route code in the Route field on the Account defaults tab of the customer details record, or in the Route/sequence field on the Other Details tab of the Sales Ledger account record. If the customer account has a route code stored against it, this is defaulted into the Route field on the Codes tab of the WIP when the account is loaded in Point-of-Sale. The setting in the customer details record takes precedence.
It is also possible for a carriage code to be stored against the route code. In this case, the carriage code is defaulted into the Carriage field on the Codes tab of the WIP when a route code is entered.
To display route code details in Point-of-Sale:
Access the Point-of-Sale WIP.
Click the Detail button on the Codes tab of the WIP.
The Route Code Details form is displayed.
Click the Close button to return to the WIP.
The Route Code Details form is displayed when you click the Detail button on the Codes tab of the WIP, if a route code is entered. From this form you can view details about the route.
Route code: The up to five-character route code entered on the Codes tab of the WIP, which usually represents a van delivery route.
Description: The description of the route code. This could either be the name of the driver, or the destination of the town, for example.
Text: Within this box up to ten lines of text are displayed that describe, for example, all the drop-off points of the van route, or any other details that would be useful when enquiries are being made.
Carriage code: The single-character carriage code entered on the Codes tab of the WIP. These codes can be used purely as an internal memo to record van delivery routes for parts. Alternatively, they can be used to denote true carriage methods such as Courier or T.N.T., and automatically forward the carriage charges onto the customer.
Carriage element: The carriage element relates to the amounts [1-9] held against the carriage code, which specify the charge value.
Time in hours: The time in hours to complete the route.
