Safety Coefficients

Safety coefficients are used to evaluate safe levels of stock for parts. A safety coefficient is entered against product groups and, optionally, re-order categories. The value influences the maximum and minimum levels created by the Generate Max/Min Levels program. In general, the higher the coefficient used, the higher the resulting maximum and minimum level, thus increasing the stock order.

The way that product groups and re-order categories are currently set up may not work for your business. This facility allows you to assimilate the Generate Max/Min Levels program by entering up to three safety coefficients. The system recalculates the recommended max/min stocking levels of parts, based on the criteria that you enter.

Note: Changes to Safety coefficients, Lead time and Days between orders on the product group or re-order category will not take effect until the Generate Max/Min Levels program is run.

To calculate recommended stocking levels:

  1. From the Rev.8 Master Menu, select the Stock management option and Company you require.

The STOCK MANAGEMENT menu is displayed.

  2. Select the Miscellaneous options option and click OK.

The SM MISCELLANEOUS OPTIONS menu is displayed.

  3. Select the Safety coefficients option.

The Print Safety Coefficients form is displayed.

  4. Complete the form.

The system calculates and displays the recommended stocking levels for each safety coefficient.

  5. To print the Max/Min report, click the Print button.

The report is printed to the currently selected printer.

Print Safety Coefficients Form

The Print Safety Coefficients form is displayed when you select the Print safety coefficients option from the SM MISCELLANEOUS OPTIONS menu. In this form, you can enter the criteria for the safety coefficients and print recommended stocking levels.

Complete the following fields:

Lead time (days): The lead time in days. A default lead time is held on four different records on the Autoline system. For a full description of the order of preference in which the system accesses records, refer to the topic Max/Min Calculation.

Period between orders (days): The number of days between orders. A period between orders value is held on three different records on the Autoline system. For a full description of the order of preference in which the system accesses records, refer to the topic Max/Min Calculation.

1st safety coefficient: Enter the first safety coefficient. The values may be in the range 0.00 to 9.99. A safety coefficient is held on two different records on the Autoline system. For a full description of the order of preference in which the system accesses records, refer to the topic Max/Min Calculation.

2nd safety coefficient: Enter the second safety coefficient. The values may be in the range 0.00 to 9.99.

3rd safety coefficient: Enter the third safety coefficient. The values may be in the range 0.00 to 9.99.

Starting monthly demand: The current monthly demand for the part at the start of the month.

Finishing monthly demand: The finishing monthly demand at the end of the month.

In steps of: The increment between the starting monthly demand and the finishing monthly demand, e.g. starting at 10 and finishing at 20 with a step of 1.0 would produce 11 lines on the report but a step of 2.0 would produce 6 lines.

The system calculates the recommended stocking levels and displays the following results for each safety coefficient:

MON'Y DMD: The Average Monthly Demand (AMD).

MIN STK: The minimum recommended stocking level of the part.

MAX STK: The maximum recommended stocking level of the part.

S/C: The Safety Coefficient.

PUSH BUTTONS:

Print: Prints the report to the currently selected printer.

Exit: Returns you to the SM MISCELLANEOUS OPTIONS menu.

Help: Displays help on the current application using the default browser.
