The facility to maintain storage types is only available if your manufacturer gives you the option to carry out bin location maintenance to facilitate the receipt of parts into stock that do not have a bin location. Standard functionality exists that allows you to create and maintain storage types. These records are used to store a part number, bin dimensions and maximum weight against a storage type, and are referenced by two files: SM.locat and SM.binlo. When you receive a part into stock that does not have a bin location, the system references the SM.locat file, and gives you the option of all bins that are free. If the part will not fit into the selected bin, the system searches for another storage type. When an appropriate bin is selected, the system updates the records on the SM.binlo file only.
