If you need to claim for a car key, you will have invoiced a non-GM part number on the claim. However, the key must be sent as a GM part - and you must transmit the actual key number - to General Motors. The part number must therefore be changed, before transmission to General Motors, from a general purpose part number to a number allocated to the key by General Motors.
This facility, in either Point-of-Sale or Manufacturer Systems, changes a part number on a claim with a key.
Note: You can only change the part number on a non-GM part. Moreover, you cannot change any of the parts values. And parts that are keys do not exist in the General Motors Master Price File.
To add a car key to a claim:
Set a value to a part in your WIP, in the Price group box on the Parts Details Form in Point-of-Sale.
You are now able to change to a GM part number.
Click Invoice on the main Point-of-Sale form.
The General Motors Warranty Claim Summary form is displayed.
Double-click a claim line on the General Motors Warranty Claim Summary Form.
The General Motors Warranty Claim form is displayed. The Net items cell within the Invoice values group box still contains a value because the system does not yet recognise that there are GM parts.
Click Edit parts list, in the Part details group box.
The GM Warranty Parts List form is displayed.
Clear the Nett item column cell for the part that is a key, by de-selecting/unticking it.
The Nett item column cell is now empty.
This enables you to edit the Part number field.
Select the Part number field.
Tip: Right-clicking displays the stock card.
A confirmation dialog box displays the following message:
You are about to edit the selected part number.
Part number: Z[Number]. Part numbers should only be amended if you are claiming for keys, as the key number is unique.
Are you sure you want to amend the part number?
Cancel/Edit
Click Edit.
This confirms that you want to change the part number of the key.
Type in the key number.
Note: Ensure that the franchise letter precedes the number - for example: Z12345678.
This sets the unique key number as the part number.
In the Invoice values group box on the General Motors Warranty Claim Form, the value in the Net items field is moved to the Parts field. This indicates that the part is now a GM part number.
Select the Causal check box for the part. If you do not specify this as the causal part, the Claim invalid red cross is displayed on the General Motors Warranty Claim Form.
Note: If the key is the Causal part number, the listed causal part is automatically changed.
Complete the Labour Line Details, and click OK.
The new causal part is transferred to the Causal part number field, and sent to General Motors.
Note: All claim details are saved when you save the claim. There is no separate save action for specific parts and labour.

From the General Motors Warranty Claims form, click the Search for a claim toolbar button, or click the Claim number field's Ellipsis button
.
