The SC PERPETUAL OPTIONS menu is displayed when Perpetual options is selected from the STOCK CHECKING menu. The items on this menu allow you to carry out a controlled daily stock check throughout the year. The menu enables the system to be tuned to your particular requirements. For example, the approximate number of lines to be counted each day and the number of times a single category/classification of parts should be counted in a year.
The items on the SC PERPETUAL OPTIONS menu enable you to determine and control the number of parts to be counted and report on the performance of the counts. All other aspects of a Perpetual Stock Check are identical to a Full or Partial Stock Check.
Classification codes: The classification code in Perpetual Inventory is a single alpha character, and mirrors the re-order category field within the part number record.
Rebuild stock count: In order that the logic of Perpetual Inventory is able to produce sensible results (such as the number of items to count per day), the system needs to know the number of parts in each classification class across the stock file. This option simply scans the stock file and automatically re-builds the field No. of stocked parts in the classification record.
Display perpetual model: The system maintains a tally of how many parts have been perpetually checked in each stock-check classification. With the information in each classification record and the above parameters, the system is now able to provide an accurate model of the volumes to be included in each daily stock check list.
Advance class history: Each classification record holds 2 sets of monthly figures. This option simply advances these figures by 1 slot, thus providing an empty slot for a new period. Obviously it should be run at a month end.
Set counts to zero: This option should be run at the end of a year's counting. It clears down the tally of parts counted in each classification to zero in preparation for next year.
Note: This topic is relevant only when the system is used to carry out Perpetual Inventory.
The following options are available to the Batch End-of-Day procedure on a daily basis:
Update stock file: Performs the update procedure.
Generate check list: This initialises the check file and generates a new list on a perpetual logic basis.
Print check list: Prints the generated list of parts by page.
The effect of these options is to update the figures entered today and to generate a new list of parts for tomorrow.
Note: All the staff need to do is count the parts on the daily check list, and input the figures counted.
The following options are available to the End-of-Day on a monthly basis:
Rebuild stock count: Maintains integrity for the Perpetual model of parts in each class.
Advance class history: Prepares for each new period, sets counts to zero and clears the field for the next period.
